Ele Fountain event opportunity for Suffolk Primary Schools

This Autumn, children’s charity The Children’s Bookshow is offering Suffolk primary schools the chance to see award-winning author, Ele Fountain in a live performance at The New Wolsey Theatre. Ele Fountain’s performance will take place as a part of The Children’s Bookshow Autumn programme.  The full programme can be found on The Children’s Bookshow website.

On Thursday 17 October, Ele Fountain will be talking about her life as an author, share her top writing tips and explain how she came to create Wild, her page-turning adventure about the destruction of the rainforest. With readings from the book, and plenty of opportunity to ask Ele questions about her life and work, this brilliant event is not to be missed!

Ele worked as an editor in children’s publishing where she helped launch and nurture the careers of many prize-winning and bestselling authors. Ele’s debut novel, Boy 87, won four awards and was nominated for nine more, including the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize, and Lost won the 2021 Portsmouth Book Award. She lives in Hampshire with her husband and two daughters.

The event, which will take place during the school day, is open to primary schools. Bookings are open now.

Every child who attends the event with their school will receive a free copy of Wild (2023), by Ele Fountain, to take home and keep. It is a beautifully written adventure story that explores personal grief and the crises afflicting our rainforests.

Every school that books tickets to the performance also has the chance to receive one of four free in-classroom workshops with Ele Fountain, for 30 or more children. The Children’s Bookshow will allocate this fantastic opportunity to four schools who book tickets to the show.

“What a fantastic event with Ele, and a great workshop at school too!” – Librarian, Blue Gate Fields Junior Schools, London.

The Children’s Bookshow are regular guests at the New Wolsey, having hosted live literature events at the theatre for the last 12 years. Previous performances have featured some of the best-loved figures in children’s publishing, including Jon Agee and Hilary McKay.

Founded in 2003, The Children’s Bookshow is a charity that inspires children with a love of reading. The organisation introduces children to world-class authors and illustrators through a programme of theatre events and in-school workshops. The artists selected are chosen from a wide variety of countries and cultures to give young people access to the very best stories, poems and illustrations from all over the world.

The Children’s Bookshow Autumn tour is a live literature roadshow that brings the joy of reading to children across the U.K. In 2023, the tour delivered performances, workshops and free books to over 7,000 children, with Ele Fountain at The Wolsey Theatre being one of the live roadshow events.

In March, the Ipswich theatre hosted a sell-out World Book Day event with The Children’s Bookshow and popular poet, Michael Rosen. The Children’s Bookshow live streamed the event to over 60,000 children around the world who enjoyed Michael’s performance online, alongside those watching in-person at the 1,000 seat theatre.
