Dinosaur, Grrrrr!

We all have a little one in our lives that loves all things dinosaurs, for me it was my youngest son’s favourite theme during his pre-school years, and books were the best part of sharing in his interest because we got to read them together. The three books that I’m sharing on this blog post are super fun, educational, and encourage interaction throughout, which is the most important element to any book if you were to ask children. These will be incredibly popular with dinosaur loving little ones, and make perfect gifts for Christmas!

Don’t Take A T-Rex Out For Tea

  • Published on 12th October 2023

This book has everything a dinosaur loving younger child could possibly want in their book. The illustrations are bright, bold, and eye catching, and depict the unfolding chaos perfectly. These antics have one reason for them, dinosaurs! There is a sports mad stegosaurus that doesn’t take kindly to losing, a pterodactyl opponent in a race – but they can fly very fast!, a diplodocus that cannot possibly be hidden from view given its large body and long neck, a triceratops that should definitely not be allowed anywhere near a trumpet, and finally, as indicated by books title, a t-rex that is more interested in eating you then the food offered when out for tea! Each turn of the page makes for even more giggles as the funny scenes become apparent, and of course, as this is ‘a dino-mite pop-up book’, there is a pop-up of the dinosaur referenced, which completely adds another level of enjoyment to this book. Whether they make you jump or not you can guarantee they will be a huge hit with dinosaurs fans of all ages, especially paired with the rhyming sentences, and recognisable scenarios that dinosaurs are involved in.

Goodnight Dinosaurs (Little Explorers)

  • Published on 9th November 2023

This beautiful book features peep-through pages that encourage curious little ones to notice more of a layered and built up illustration from the front cover and beyond, and these become apparent in the preceding pages as much as the upcoming, so there is plenty to look out for. The dinosaurs and their surrounding landscape are illustrated in a traditional style and colour palette, and the little facts that can be found across the pictures, separate to the rhyming sentences of the story, add a further fun element to this book. The final scene shows the setting sun, which is a gorgeous foil, and adds a beautiful touch to what is an all round engaging board book for fans of these extinct reptiles.

Noisy Dinosaur (I Can Learn, My First Sounds)

  • Published on 9th November 2023

Obviously the very first thing we did with this book was play around with the 5 noisy parts, which include the swishing of a tail, stomping through puddles, and of course a good roar! Each two page spread in this book details the relevant sound, and which part of the dinosaur to press in order to hear it, and features illustrations of some dinosaurs, which are labelled with their name, and the way to pronounce it too (handy for us adults reading the book), as well other labelled items relevant to the surroundings, The book does have short rhyming sentences that collate the entire book together, and these add some additional detail to help little ones understand the scenes, with the book ending with it being bedtime for dinosaurs, and daring you to press the buttons some more! This is as brilliantly interactive as it is interesting, with plenty to spot on the pages, and lots of dinosaurs to learn too.
