Fear Ground by Jennifer Killick

  • Published by Firefly Press
  • Sequel to the fantastic Dread Wood

There is a new craze at Dread Wood high school.

Flinch is a new app that everyone is playing, the aim of the game is to scare your friends and the more you do that the more points you get. Of course our group of friends are obsessed with the app, that is until strange things start happening.

Fearing the worst, our friends start investigating the app and soon their worst fears are realised.

With twists and turns, they must once again work together to try and stop the evil that is around the school.

When I reviewed the first book I said that Jennifer Killick was the queen of teen horror. So I couldn’t wait to read this book. It didn’t disappoint, again we had the nursery rhyme that was centre of the book this time it was pop goes the weasel and it would play every time a game of Flinch was about to start.

We have the same cast members so we get to see how far they have come since the last book.

As a group of friends they are now closer and there is more trust.

Their teacher Mr C brings a smile to my face every time he is in the book. We all need a teacher like him in our lives.

So back to Jennifer Killick, is she still queen of teen horror? Oh yes she definitely is, and there is no one close to her. No one can write like her, no one can set the scene like her and no one can scare like her.

I have brought copies of all her books as I have a lot of children at school who love to be scared, these books spend only minutes in the library, they go from child to child being loved.

These are the sort of books children want to read, and we look forward to the next one.

Long live Queen Jennifer.
