Stunning Cover Design by Katie Wilson

I am delighted to feature on this blog tour for Extraordinary by Penny Harrison and Katie Wilson as I fell in love with this picture book as soon as I saw it. The hardback edition I have features foil detail to the leaves on the cover making it eye catching and giving it an autumnal feel. This book definitely deserves to be front facing on bookshelves, irrespective of whether it is in a bookshop or library.

As you open the book you could get lost in the end pages as they take you to a gorgeous meadow of flowers, birds flying past in the sky and an incredible feeling of calm. This continues as you read the rhyming verse within the book which details how every moment is special and shouldn’t be taken for granted, how the little moments can be more significant then those apparently bigger ones, and how special it is to appreciate time spent with those we care about – albeit friends or family.

The book inspires you to want to head outdoors and have an adventure and to make the most of what you have access to, and this is encouraged by the stunning illustrations that compliment the tale beautifully as they depict a variety of scenes and seasons with people enjoying experiences that we can relate to and replicate. Detailing the enjoyment that we can find by spending time outdoors is hugely relevant to the younger generation who can often be found indoors and may overlook the things around them.

The tale itself showcases a variety of examples of people enjoying that magical moment they are in, and a feeling of pure happiness – whether that be discovering birdsong or camping under the stars – and the pleasure is reflected on the characters faces in the gorgeous illustrations that light up the pages and immerse you amongst the scenes of this heartwarming, feel good read that younger readers will love sharing with family members at home and during bedtime routines, and with friends during class reads and library sessions.
