My January highlights 😃

Just two days into 2019 and I bought my first book of this year, opting for Piers Torday’s The Lost Magician which came recommended by a fellow librarian.

I have had an amazing choice of books to read during this especially cold month such as The Peculiar Peggs of Riddling Woods by Samuel J Halpin, or any of the other books featured in my blog posts so far – if I take the time to share a post then the book featured is definitely worth reading.

I am really excited to have Samuel J Halpin visiting my workplace/school in March and I am very keen to share the rules of staying in the town of Suds with children at work soon! Just this week I have successfully hosted childrens author and comedian James Campbell in my school library, learning all about his books including The Funny life of Pets – the children really enjoyed themselves too!

Another fantastic read this month has been The Star-Spun Web by Sinèad O’Hart which inspired my second book purchase of the month Eye of the North by the same author. I cannot wait to indulge in this title, which now sits higher up in my TBR pile.

My final purchase of the month was Clockwork Crow by Katherine Fisher which I bought via the publishers sale! I even had my copy dedicated and signed. Perfect!

I throughly enjoyed reading and reviewing The Bluest of Blues by Fiona Robinson for Armadillo Children’s Book Review Magazine ( and concluded January with a second title for the online publication, reviewing The Turnaway Girls by Hayley Chewins – a phenomenal book that couldn’t be rushed.

Taking part in the Toppsta Book Group event for Ross welford’s The Dog Who Saved the World on Twitter was great too as we all shared our collective thoughts, feelings and opinions on the book, proving that an amazing book can bridge the gap between strangers.

It has been a promising start to 2019 and my blog I hope, and I look forward to adding other ideas I have very soon so watch this space!
